Process Journey

Process Journey is a game I completed for Ludum Dare 28.  It’s a visual novel/first person adventure.  The theme for this Ludum Dare was “You Only Have One”, so the game mechanic that relates to that is that you only have one chance to go through the door.  After you go through it, it closes forever, and what ending you get depends on when you go through.  There are a few other story bits that also relate to the theme, but this is the most obvious.

The game primarily featured poking about an alien landscape, trying to figure out what you need to do before you go through the door.  When people played it, however, I discovered that it was difficult for them to figure out which areas were hotspots and which were not, as I did not have a way to make an obvious indication of that.  The original release also had bugs in it which actually caused a major story puzzle to change, which made some things said in the game make no sense at all.  Fortunately, that is fixed now.  Testing is the most important part of game design, but Ludum Dare doesn’t leave you with much time!

I enjoyed everything about this game so much, that even though this is a complete experience I am now working on an expanded version.  This version will have more story, more rooms, more puzzles (especially ones with complex solutions), more art (and improved art!), more endings, etc.  Check out news on the expanded version in the In-Progress Games section!
